How CGPA is calculated
CGPA weights each subject by its credits, so a 4-credit subject counts more than a 1-credit one.
- 1Multiply each subject's credits × grade point.
- 2Add all those products together.
- 3Divide by the total credits. Multiply the result by 9.5 for the UGC percentage.
CGPA = Σ(credit × grade point) / Σ(credits)
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5

Grade points (10-point scale). O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, P = 4, F = 0. Example: a 4-credit A (8) and a 3-credit B+ (7) give (4×8 + 3×7) ÷ 7 = 53 ÷ 7 = 7.57 CGPA → 71.9%.

How do I calculate CGPA?
CGPA is the credit-weighted average of your grade points: multiply each subject's credits by its grade point, add them up, and divide by the total credits. Formula: CGPA = Σ(credit × grade point) ÷ Σ(credits).
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
The UGC formula is Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. For a CGPA of 8.2 that's 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%. Some universities use a different multiplier — see our CGPA to percentage tool.
What is a good CGPA?
On a 10-point scale, a CGPA of 8.0 and above is generally considered strong and helps with placements and higher studies. 9.0+ is excellent.
What's the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
