Unlock PDF
Remove a password you already know from a PDF, or strip printing/copying restrictions from a PDF you own. Everything runs inside your browser: your file is never uploaded and the password is never sent, so nothing can leak. It even works offline.
Only for PDFs you own — enter the password you already have. This cannot crack or guess an unknown password (AES-256 is uncrackable), and it never brute-forces anything. If you've forgotten a password, the file can't be recovered.

How to remove a password from a PDF (without uploading it)
Most "unlock PDF" websites upload your file to their servers, decrypt it there, and send it back — which means your protected file, and the password you typed, briefly live on someone else's machine. This one is different: it does the whole job on your device with the open-source qpdf engine, and it checks its own work before handing you the file.
- 1Add your PDF. Drag it onto the box or click to pick. It loads straight into your browser's memory — nothing is sent anywhere.
- 2Enter the password you know. If the PDF asks for a password to open, type the one you already have. If it only blocks printing or copying, leave the field blank.
- 3Unlock, verify & download. Your browser decrypts the file, re-opens it to confirm it now opens with no password, then gives you the unlocked PDF.
What it will not do. This tool never guesses or brute-forces a password — if you don't know it, the file cannot be opened, because AES-256 is uncrackable. It's for removing a password you already have from a document you own, so you can stop retyping it every time you open the file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF or password uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your file is read into your device's memory and decrypted locally, and the password never leaves your browser — neither the file nor the password is ever sent to any server, so there's no way for them to leak. It even works offline once the page has loaded.
Can this crack or recover a password I don't know?
No — and it never tries. This tool only removes a password you already have, and performs no guessing or brute force. AES-256, which modern PDFs use, is uncrackable, so a forgotten open-password can't be recovered by any tool. Please only use this on PDFs you own.
What if the PDF only blocks printing or copying?
Some PDFs open without a password but restrict printing, copying or editing — these are owner-level restrictions. For a PDF you own, leave the password field blank and the tool removes those restrictions on your device using the open-source qpdf engine.
What happens if I enter the wrong password?
The tool tells you the password didn't work and produces nothing — it won't silently hand you a broken file. Check the password and try again. Because nothing is uploaded, you can retry as many times as you like, completely privately.
Is it really free?
